Emilia Romagna, Off the Map

A visual project for InEmiliaRomagna focused on hidden places and overlooked landscapes

Working with inEmiliaRomagna means stepping away from the obvious.

This project was born with a precise intention: to explore what usually stays outside the frame. The margins. The secondary roads. The places that do not appear in guides, but quietly define the character of the region.

Emilia Romagna is often told through its landmarks and traditions. Here, the focus shifts elsewhere: abandoned corners, silent villages, in between landscapes, forgotten architectures, fragments of everyday territory that resist simplification.

My role was to build a visual narrative around these spaces. Not to transform them, but to observe them. To give visual weight to what is usually passed by.

Through photography and field work, I documented minor locations, transitional areas, remote rural structures, and landscapes shaped by time more than by promotion. Places without spectacle, yet full of identity.

The result is a body of work that expands the visual map of the region. A different geography, made of pauses, distance, and quiet presence.

Because sometimes, the most honest story of a place lives exactly where no one is looking.
